Si-nergy: New plasma process to produce silicon nanopowders for energy storage applications
Silicon nanopowder is one of the most promising next-generation lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode materials due to its exceptional gravimetric and volumetric capacities. Silicon improves battery capacity by 10 times as compared to one made from graphite. In addition, it has been reported that silicon nanoparticles with a diameter under 150 nm do not suffer from charge–discharge cycle cracking. This results in stable battery performance upon cycling.
With its leading-edge proprietary RF plasma technology developed over the last 30 years and dedicated R&D experts, Tekna has developed a patented process that combines induction plasma and silane gas.
