High-purity nickel nano powders engineered for multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC)

Overview

Nano Nickel for MLCC Applications

Nano Nickel Powders and Paste for MLCC

The Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, and EV technology booming markets are driving the miniaturization of microelectronics components with higher performance and lower power consumption. Multi Layered Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC) are core to these components, and manufacturing the next high-end generation of MLCC is highly demanding in terms of materials quality.

Nickel layers with thicknesses smaller than 400 nm must be made from paste containing nickel nanoparticles meeting strict specifications, including:

  • Mean diameter of 80 nm or less
  • Spherical morphology
  • Controlled surface chemistry
  • Very low level of agglomeration
Overview

Nano Nickel 80 — Classified Powder Dispersion

85% solid in DHTA

Tekna’s proprietary process involves dispersing, classifying, and solvent-exchanging unclassified nano nickel, resulting in a concentrated (85%) nano nickel dispersion within the client’s solvent, such as DHTA.

  • Wet Classified Product
Continuous wet classification prevents agglomeration and ensures the absence of coarse particles, offering a significant advantage over traditional centrifugal classification methods.
  • Ease of Dispersion
High dispersibility enables efficient removal of particles exceeding 300 nm while ensuring consistent production results.
  • Narrow Particle Size Distribution
Average particle size of 80 nm with D99 < 175 nm (PSD in numbers), ensuring precision and reliability in MLCC production.
  • High Purity with Oxygen & Sulfur Control
Enables precise control of surface chemistry, essential for MLCC electrode performance.
  • Nano Nickel
Higher specific surface area (BET) allows superior coverage, smoother layers, improved MLCC connectivity, higher yields, and repeatable quality.
