HPT – Huels Plasma Wind Tunnel

The Huels DC Arc Torch (HPT) offers versatile capabilities for testing flight conditions at medium altitudes and intermediate velocities. Its simple yet effective design combines rugged construction with reliable, repeatable performance.

HUELS DC ARC TORCH (HPT)

Key features:

  • Electrical Arc: Plasma is generated by a DC electric arc established between a cathode and an anode.
  • Arc Rotation: An electromagnetic field combined with a gas vortex keeps the arc rotating continuously, evenly distributing the heat load and extending electrode life.
  • Water-Cooled Copper Electrodes: These electrodes support sustained operation while minimizing erosion.
  • High Stagnation Pressure: The torch delivers high stagnation pressure at medium enthalpy, closely reproducing real flight conditions.
  • Flight Simulation: The HPT is used to simulate flight conditions at intermediate altitudes and hypersonic velocities, making it well suited for medium-altitude, medium-velocity testing.
