As a spin-off of the University of Sherbrooke, Tekna's mission is centred around technology transfer from the university laboratory to the industrial sector. With more than 30 years of experience in fundamental and applied research and thermal plasma technology development, Tekna rapidly joined the ranks of world leaders in this field. By focussing its efforts on the design and scaling up of induction plasma sources and integrated plasma systems, Tekna is able to offer unique capabilities for the industrial use of this new technology in a wide range of applications for material processing, nanopowder synthesis, plasma spraying and near net shape deposition.

Tekna's business activities are spread worldwide over four continents. As shown in the accompanying pie chart, about half of our clients are located in Canada, Mexico and the USA. We have also been actively working with academic and industrial partners in other parts of the world. We have successfully worked with our European customers directly from our Sherbrooke office. Customers in China, Japan, Korea and Singapore have access to us through a number of highly qualified agencies such as Correns Inc. in Japan and Aeromat in Singapore (see Direct Links).

Tekna's business policy is strongly client-oriented. As demonstrated in the accompanying flowchart, we offer our clients all the options they need for their particular goals. Our clients approach us for either specific equipment needs or integrated process needs. In the latter case, if the client's needs can be met using a standard process, such as powder spheroidization or plasma spraying of a standard material, we offer them in-house demonstration tests for process evaluation. This can be followed by either commercial production at Tekna facilities or the sale/lease of the necessary equipment for production at the client's facility. In the event that the client's needs cannot be met using a standard process, Tekna is also willing to undertake the necessary process development and demonstration work in close collaboration with the client in order to achieve their project objectives in the most effective and economical way.
